Please join us AND assist us in spreading the word about the 6B Service Area’s “Anticipating the Unthinkable” events in Cedar Falls on March 2nd and Decorah on March 3rd.  Both events start at 6:00 PM. If you haven’t heard about this yet, 6B is bringing Carly Posey to the area; many of our emergency managers heard Carly speak at the Iowa Homeland Security Conference last fall. Carly tells her story of no one being prepared for what happened inside Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012. She shares what went wrong and right on that day and the days and years to follow. She shares her perspective on the events and how a community can be proactive and be prepared for the unthinkable.

A few specifics and requests:

  • EMS Credit is approved for both locations – a sign-in sheet will be available at both events.

  • The goal is to have a variety of voices present at each event. Following Carly’s presentation, there will be an opportunity for questions but also discussion about actions we can collectively take to improve our preparation, response and recovery to a mass casualty incident.

  • Flier Distribution: please distribute the flier within your organizations and communities asking them to promote the events and post on their social media accounts. (See the note below about social media.)

  • Social Media: please post on your social media accounts  - I have included a jpeg file for posting. Feel free to use or adapt the caption that our department is using with the flier: FREE EVENT! Anticipating the Unthinkable: planning for what happens after the disaster is a presentation for parents, teachers, school officials, first responders, health professionals, and community members. The event features Carly Posey, parent of students who survived the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, and now the Mission Director of the @iloveuguys Foundation. Please see below for meeting information and consider joining us in Cedar Falls on March 2nd or in Decorah on March 3rd.

  • Please make sure that schools are aware of the presentation and have notified parents as well. (I do have a school-specific flier that I can send you that includes a disclaimer about school involvement that was required for some of the Black Hawk County districts.)

Thank you!
