Purpose: To collaborate with medical disciplines regarding the care of the trauma patient

 Educational Objectives: Upon completion of this course the participant should be able to:

  • Describe the existing hazards on a trauma scene  
  • Recognize how to maintain scene safety when caring for a trauma patient
  • Discuss disaster management and emergency preparedness in the emergency department setting
  • Describe mechanism of injury and treatment of mass casualty situations including Boston bombing and Vegas shooting
  • Discuss trauma care regarding blast injuries
  • Discuss current and upcoming treatments of the trauma patient

 

Intended Audience: Physicians, Advanced Practitioners, Nurses, Respiratory Therapists, and EMS providers

Faculty: Bobby Berndt, Firefighter, CCP; Julie Werner, RN; Erika Flaherty, RN, BSN; Dr. Shan Gao, MD; Dr. Scott Joyce, DNP, CRNA   

Cost:  Fee includes program material, continuing education recording, and light snacks

Providers with privileges:  No fee

GRMC employee: ICU, ED RNs, and OR RN/Techs: There is no fee and your time will be paid

Other employees: There is no fee, but your time will not be paid (may use CEU pay)

Non GRMC employees: $10.00

Credits: Nursing and EMS: Great River Health System is approved Iowa Board of Nursing Provider #43. Participants who attend the entire time will be awarded 3.7 contact hours. Four CEHs for paramedical personnel has been applied for with Southeastern Community College.
